GLORIES OF CHARITY

The art of giving is all about charity done without expecting anything in return. This charity is mainly to create a world of abundance and sustainability for people who are less fortunate than us. Donation or the act of giving is of tremendous importance. Vedic scriptures emphasize the charitable acts done for the greater good of the society. Charity or act of giving helps one to get rid of miseries of material life and attain peace of mind, transcendental joy, which is essential for attaining salvation.

Srila Prabhupada says, "devotional service has no material cause, and therefore it cannot be checked by any material circumstances".

Lord Sri Krishna says in the Gita "Charity given out of duty, without expectation of return, at the proper time and place, and to a worthy person is considered to be in the mode of goodness." (BG 17.20)

Acts of sacrifice, charity and penance are not to be given up but should be performed. Indeed, sacrifice, charity and penance purify even the great souls. (BG 18.5)

sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo
yato bhaktir adhokṣaje
ahaituky apratihatā
yayātmā suprasīdati

स वै पुंसां परो धर्मो यतो भक्तिरधोक्षजे ।
अहैतुक्यप्रतिहता ययात्मा सुप्रसीदति ॥ ६ ॥

The supreme occupation (dharma) for all humanity is that by which men can attain to loving devotional service unto the transcendent Lord. Such devotional service must be unmotivated and uninterrupted to completely satisfy the self.

Shrimad Bhagavatam 1.2.6

ANNA DAN

Spiritual significance of Donation or Charity is glorified in many Vedic scriptures.

If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it. Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform - do that, O son of Kunti, as an offering to Me. In this way you will be freed from bondage to work and its auspicious and inauspicious results. With your mind fixed on Me in this principle of renunciation, you will be liberated and come to Me. Bhagavad Gita 9.26-28

By rendering transcendental loving service to Shri Krishna, one automatically performs all subsidiary activities. Chaitanya Charitamrita Madhya 22.62

Firm faith in the blissful narration of My pastimes, constant chanting of My glories, unwavering attachment to ceremonial worship of Me, praising Me through beautiful hymns, great respect for My devotional service, offering obeisances with the entire body, performing first-class worship of My devotees, consciousness of Me in all living entities, offering of ordinary, bodily activities in My devotional service, use of words to describe My qualities, offering the mind to Me, rejection of all material desires, giving up wealth for My devotional service, renouncing material sense gratification and happiness, and performing all desirable activities such as charity, sacrifice, chanting, vows and austerities with the purpose of achieving Me - these constitute actual religious principles, by which those human beings who have actually surrendered themselves to Me automatically develop love for Me. What other purpose or goal could remain for My devotee? Shrimad Bhagavatam 11.19.20-24

Lord Krishna says in the Shrimad Bhagavatam 11.11.43

Below are some go-seva that you may wish to perform.

Mid-Day Meal Program

Food From GodMidday meal program was started in India protecting children from classroom hunger, increasing school enrolment and attendance, improved socialization among children belonging to all castes and addressing malnutrition. This initiative increased the school participation and completion rates.

Under the benign guidance of Vaishanava Acharyasa, Anant Seva Trust has started the Food from God program in the year 2012 to address larger issue of hunger by distributing sanctified (sattvic) vegetarian food to school children.

Food from God is prepared under complete hygienic conditions and offered to the Lord before distribution, thus becomes the purest of the three types because of its transcendental nature and hence, free from all karmik reactions, brings all round development to the children and becoming thus a source of positive vibrations that rejuvenates the real happiness and learning among children.

Children in Need

Childhood is the most important phase of an individual which defines their character, morality and inculcates values that govern their actions, behaviours and personality in the future. Quality of life at this stage assumes greater importance as the current younger generation form the foundation of a happy, content, prosperous and peaceful society of the future. But the progressive modern society comes with its own side effects that includes self centered lifestyles, material enjoyment, imbalanced economic and social conditions, lack of vision for the future leading to children being the most neglected and exploited beings.
Though the Government of India introduced "The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act" in 2009 to mandate free and compulsory education to all children aged 6 to 14 years. But the larger problem of poverty, hunger and other social issues become the roadblock in bringing many poor children to the school. These are the real big problems and we invite everyone to come forward to extend help shaping their future.
